Have you ever had an urge to do something so out of your character that you wonder if its God who’s calling you to do it?
My wife and I went to Haiti in January of 2012 for a week. Since we’ve come back to Canada we’ve become consumed with the idea of going back to Haiti. We truly feel like its Gods call on our lives to get involved in missions work- So, what does that look like? Throw every possession we own on our front lawn with a big YARD SALE sign and take the next flight to Haiti? Sometimes I think that’s what we should be doing, but I also know that God has a plan for everyone, and sometimes that plan involves patience and…a little waiting- oh and a bit of faith too-
The trip we are planning to take is January until April of 2013- But I often feel that its a bit ridiculous to be giving God a time frame like that- I keep thinking of the verse in Matthew 4:18-22 “Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. 21 Going on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
The only thing we know is that the disciples dropped everything and OBEYED Gods call for them. It doesn’t mention anything about Peter saying “Thanks for the offer- it isn’t very convenient right now for me to go, but give me a shout in January!” And it also doesn’t mention Jesus saying “Follow me for three months and follow me- and if you don’t like being a fisher of men, you can go back to fishing for fish again”
I just have to keep reminding myself that Gods timing is PERFECT and we just have to continually look for opportunities to serve him in the mean time-
